About Payyd

Payyd is an independent comparison directory for crypto payment gateways. We help businesses and developers find the right gateway with honest, data-driven reviews — no marketing fluff, no pay-to-rank listings.

Our Mission

The crypto payment gateway space is growing fast, but reliable information is hard to find. Most "reviews" are thinly disguised affiliate pitches. Payyd exists to fix that. We believe merchants and developers deserve a single, trustworthy place to compare gateways on the metrics that actually matter: fees, supported coins, integration complexity, KYC requirements, and real-world reliability.

How We Review Gateways

Every gateway in our directory is independently evaluated across multiple dimensions:

  • Fees: Transaction fees, settlement fees, withdrawal charges, and currency conversion rates.
  • Integration: API quality, documentation, supported platforms (Shopify, WooCommerce, custom), and developer experience.
  • Privacy: KYC requirements (none, email-only, or full ID), data collection practices, and jurisdiction.
  • Reliability: Uptime track record, settlement speed, user reports of held funds, and provider transparency.
  • Features: Supported cryptocurrencies, fiat settlement options, auto-conversion, invoicing, recurring payments, and multi-currency support.

Gateways are assigned a tier ranking (S through D) based on their overall score. Commission rates do not influence tier placement.

How We Stay Current

Crypto payment gateway offerings change frequently — fees shift, providers launch or shut down, and KYC policies evolve. We re-verify every gateway in the directory on a weekly basis. Our blog content is reviewed and updated monthly to ensure accuracy.

Meet the Team

Payyd is built by a small team of specialists who have spent years in the trenches of crypto payments — integrating gateways, reconciling settlements, auditing compliance policies, and chasing down held funds. Here's who's behind the reviews.

Marcus Eberhardt — Lead Analyst, Merchant Experience

Marcus Eberhardt

Lead Analyst — Merchant Experience

Marcus spent seven years running payments operations for a mid-size European e-commerce group that processed both card and crypto rails across six countries. He has personally onboarded, tested, or decommissioned more than forty crypto payment processors — including several that later collapsed or froze merchant funds. That firsthand scar tissue shapes how Payyd evaluates reliability, settlement speed, and dispute handling. He leads our gateway tier rankings and re-verifies fee schedules each week. Reach him with merchant horror stories at hey@payyd.co.

Priya Raman — Integrations Engineer, APIs and Infrastructure

Priya Raman

Integrations Engineer — APIs & Infrastructure

Priya is a backend engineer with a decade of experience building payment integrations — first for a Stripe-era SaaS, then for a non-custodial Bitcoin processor, and most recently self-hosting BTCPay Server and Lightning nodes for small merchants. She writes and benchmarks every API test we publish: webhook reliability, invoice expiry behaviour, chain reorg handling, and how gracefully a gateway fails when a stablecoin depegs mid-payment. If a review mentions that a processor's docs are wrong or its webhook signatures don't verify, Priya found it.

Tomás Lindqvist — Compliance and Jurisdictional Research

Tomás Lindqvist

Compliance & Jurisdictional Research

Tomás comes from a financial compliance background and spent several years advising crypto-adjacent startups on MiCA, FATF travel-rule requirements, and AML programme design. At Payyd he does the unglamorous work: reading terms of service, cross-checking FCA and EU VASP registers, decoding which entity actually holds merchant funds, and spotting the gap between what a processor claims in its AML policy and what the public registers actually show. Our Pay4Bit investigation is a good example of his methodology.

Our Broader Work

Beyond Payyd, the team builds tools for privacy-conscious users at Undetectr and help people discover the best AI-powered tools through PopularAiTools.ai.

Affiliate Transparency

Some gateways in our directory have affiliate programs. When you sign up through one of our links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue helps us keep Payyd free and independent. Crucially, affiliate relationships do not affect our rankings or reviews. Gateways without affiliate programs are listed and evaluated equally. For full details, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
